This Photo: | Bidentate Anterior Tibia
Thank you Mark Hura for identifying this species for us EXTRA - Photo Specific Information: Known as "Bidentate" anterior tibia. Meaning "bi" = 2, "dentate" = tooth like. Anterior = front. The tibia is the same as human legs. So the front legs have 2 tooth like spurs. General Species Information: Found on Ellura (in the Murray Mallee, SA) and elsewhere Normally we find so much of our wildlife is tiny. It makes sence that to survive in our harsh semi-arid environment "tiny" means less resources required to thrive. AND THEN we get a whopper like this! A staggeringly large beetle at ~32mm long! That's 8, yes folks EIGHT, times bigger than the Bulbous Antennae Clerid Beetle we just published .... Mark said "They are fairly widespread right across the Mallee areas from Eyre Peninsula through to Victoria."
