Species: | Sand Dune Grasshopper (Urnisiella rubropunctata)This Photo: | Adult, profile | Other name: | Long-legged Grasshopper | Thank you Matthew Connors for confirming the id of this species for us General Species Information: Found in the Riverland and possibly elsewhere Incredibly well hidden/camouflaged grasshopper. All the legs are very long, particularly the middle pair. It looked liked a spider at first. We coloured one photo to try and bring the grasshopper out more; but it's not how we saw it. The nymph shown here is probably ~5th instar. Matthew said "They are one of the only grasshoppers that burries themselves in the sand; for protection/hide themselves".
