| Species: | Bark Louse (Psocidae sp ES01)| This Photo: | S2, Adult Male, profile | Synonym: | Ptycta enderleini | Thank you Dr Alexei Kouprianov (Alexei_Kouprianov) & Andrew Humpage (HappyWonderer) for helping with the id of this species for us General Species Information: Found on Ellura (in the Murray Mallee, SA) and elsewhere At only 2.5mm body & head length, it wasn't the easiest animal we've tried to photograph It seems to be a relatively common species but isn't described in Smithers (1990) that we can see. However, it matches very closely Ptycta enderleini, in the paper "Systematic Position of Trichadenotecnum enderleini" by Yoshizawa & Smithers. We thought is was Trichadenotecnum enderleini, a synonym for Ptycta enderleini. Alexei lifted our id to family level, saying "The general wing venation pattern is rather uniform across Psocidae, one must pay attention to fine details. Rs and M are stalked indeed but that is basically the only thing that specifically matches. Colour pattern of the wings (always present in Trichadenotecnum and Ptycta) counts". Further "We are only at the very start of the journey. I hope, in few years, identification will become easier". In someone else's obs' he stated "Colour pattern of the wings (darker dots and spots) is always present and rather stable in Trichadenotecnum spp. and Ptycta spp. This is clear-wing except for the pterostigm. Must be a different genus."
