Thank you Marco Selis, Milo van Loon, Brian Dagley & Arturo Femia for confirming the id of this species for us General Species Information: Found on Ellura (in the Murray Mallee, SA) and elsewhere ~14mm long. Emarginate eyes, long thin waist. The thin/thread waist is represented by another group (Sphecinae), but the folded wings held along side, or up in the air, trumps the thin waist for taxon placement in Vespidae. B. Dagley said "There are 9 Australian Ischnocoelia species in total, although maybe only a subset are possible matches. Lopes, R. B., Carpenter, J. M., & Noll, F. B. (2021). Cladistic analysis of Zethus Fabricius, 1804 (Hymenoptera, Vespidae): a new subgeneric classification. Journal of Hymenoptera Research, 82, 253." | |||||
