Hewitt (CHewitt1) for confirming the id of this species for us General Species Information: Found in the Murray Mallee SA, Adelaide Hills, Adelaide Plains and possibly elsewhere It's very sad, but the Pacific Black Duck is becoming extinct. The extinction process is via hybridisation with the introduced Mallard Duck. The Mallard is a more aggressive species, and so mates more readily than the native. We were concerned if the Dark specimen here (showing it's wings) was a hybrid but Jason said "I think there's some mud/mineral staining going on, making it look a bit odd, but otherwise okay "
