Thank you Tony Daley & James Lumbers for identifying this species for us General Species Information: Found on Ellura (in the Murray Mallee, SA) and elsewhere We thought we had 2 species on our hands, when it turns out they are male & female of the same species. We also thought they were a Senostoma sp; partly due to the plumose arista. Note the males have longer legs than the females These have quite translucent abdomens and are bright yellow in the sunlight. Tony said "The plumose antennae (and long-legged males) also occurs within Leskiini. Also, just to add to the confusion, some Senostoma do not possess plumose arista, being instead short pubescent." and "The facial carina are quite large in Senostoma, being somewhat bulbous and separating the antennae above". James said "No facial carina ... Australian Leskiini have this particular 'look' about them too" You can see this bulbous face/carina on our grey sand fly.
